In this article I will show you how to upgrade your Debian kernel from 2.6.32  to 3.2.0 using backports sources.

Step1. Open /etc/apt/sources.list file and edit like this and update repositories:

echo “deb http://backports.debian.org/debian-backports squeeze-backports main”  > /etc/apt/sources.list

apt-get update

Step2.  Search for  the newest linux-image and install it:

apt-cache search linux-image

Install the latest kernel:

# apt-get install -t squeeze-backports linux-image-3.2.0-0.bpo.3-686-pae
Reading package lists… Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information… Done
The following extra packages will be installed:
initramfs-tools libc6-i686 linux-base
Suggested packages:
bash-completion linux-doc-3.2 debian-kernel-handbook grub-pc extlinux lilo
